Ideal Food Pairings With Tenjaku Whisky

Pairing Tenjaku Japanese Whisky with food is one of the most satisfying ways to enjoy it. While we have already written about some of our favorite meat and cheese pairings the truth is that the mellow, refreshing flavors of Tenjaku make it a very versatile pairing option. When selected correctly, Tenjaku Whisky can accentuate and heighten many of our favorite foods (and vice versa). That’s why we wanted to take some time to discuss a few of our personal favorite flavor combinations featuring Tenjaku Whisky to help provide some inspiration for our readers.

This month, we wanted to focus specifically on pairings featuring Tenjaku Whisky and some lighter fare. It’s a fact that the smooth, blended flavors of Tenjaku Whisky can complement some of our favorite smaller bites including chocolate, fruit, and nuts.

Chocolate:

While whisky and sweets may seem like an unorthodox combination to some, the mellow flavors of Tenjaku Whisky pair wonderfully with certain types of chocolate. Specifically, bolder dark chocolate is a natural companion to Japanese whisky due to its ability to cut through the stronger whisky flavor without being lost. For the more adventurous, we recommend trying Tenjaku Pure Malt Whisky with a richer chocolate cake for an after-mealdelight.

Fruit:

Japanese whisky like Tenjaku can also pair extremely well with fresh fruit. However, some fruits work better than others. We recommend something tangy or tart, like apples, pears, or fresh cranberries. Fruits that contain too much citrus, like oranges or kiwi, may not pair as seamlessly with Japanese whisky.

Nuts & Dried Fruit:

Dried fruit and nuts can be the perfect cocktail hour snack when paired with Tenjaku Whisky. When it comes to selecting the right fruit and nut mix, the options are nearly endless. We do highly recommend opting for simple tastes that lack salt and sugar in order to get the most enjoyment from the contrast of your pairing. Some of our favorite combinations include dried apricots and almonds, and cashews with raisins or dried prunes.

While we hope you will give these recommendations a shot, we always encourage everyone to be creative when developing their own favorite food pairings with Tenjaku Whisky. There’s no right or wrong way to enjoy this mellow Japanese whisky as long as you’re enjoying it responsibly.
