Guest Post from Tenjaku Fan, Joshua Scarver
Tenjaku is “a good place for people to get into the world of Japanese Whisky”.
Tenjaku Father’s Day contest winner Joshua Scarver talks about his love for whisky, cigars and giving back.
My name is Joshua Scarver and I am from the city of Milwaukee. I have done many things and worn many hats in my life and career but more recently I decided to focus my efforts on sharing my love of whisky (bourbon, scotch , Irish and of course Japanese) and love of cigars. I have been enjoying spirits and cigars for many years (15 years to be exact) but I rarely shared my underlying passion for these everyday ‘luxuries’.
I come from a background of music production, merchandising and branding. While those were and are great times in my life, the whisky and cigar world have been my favorite besides the charity work my wife and I have done for our organization #DWYDgives – which is a yearly toy, book and sports item collection to help children and teens in my city of Milwaukee (and beyond) who have been unfortunate victims of neglect and abuse.
So far, I’ve come across many great people in the industries of whisky and cigars and everyday people who just enjoy whisky and cigars. It’s beautiful to witness the sharing and knowledge and experiences people who are into whisky and cigars have with one another! I actually discovered Tenjaku from Instagram! It’s amazing how social media can introduce us to new brands and bring out our curiosity to try them.
I really discovered more about Tenjaku after winning a giveaway about Father’s Day. While my father was not a part of my life, I shared a story about my father in law who taught me to tie a necktie. Now, I have had a few Japanese whiskies in my time of enjoying whiskies but I had never seen or heard of Tenjaku. The Japanese whiskies I have had I truly enjoyed their flavors of light sweetness like honey, vanilla and fruit notes , creamy almost buttery mouth feels and the very pleasant aromas that I have gotten from Japanese whiskies.
When trying Tenjaku I was expecting a similar experience and that is exactly what I got. The aroma of fresh light sweetness of dried fruits like apricots and raisins along with baked bread and wood notes. The flavors of dried fruit, light caramel and honey were very good on my palate. I’ve even smoked some cigars while drinking Tenjaku and have enjoyed the experience greatly. I feel Tenjaku occupies a nice space of affordable but tasty blended Japanese whisky in the market. It’s a good place for people to get into the world of Japanese Whisky.
